Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results.

Willie Nelson (see works by Willie Nelson )

A ruffled mind makes a restless pillow.

Charlotte Bronte (see works by Charlotte Bronte )

It's lovely to know that the world can’t interfere with the inside of your head.

Frank McCourt (see works by Frank McCourt )

It is the mind that maketh good or ill, that maketh wretch or happy, rich or poor.

Edmund Spencer (see works by Edmund Spencer )

The mind is a powerful thing. It is the first step in the triad of creation. First there is Thought, then Word, then Manifestation. It is important to become consciously aware of your thoughts, so that they take you in the direction in which you truly want to go.

Annie Zalezsak

Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve.

from Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill (see works by Napoleon Hill )

The same pattern of thinking that has gotten us to where we are will not get us to where we want to go.

from Awaken the Giant Within, by Anthony Robbins (see other works by Anthony Robbins )

Live as if every thought, good or bad, open or secret, comes back to you. It does.

The Daily Guru

During the time of the darkest night, act as if the morning has already come.

The Talmud (see more about the Talmud )

Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Romans 12:12 (see the Bible )

Real, constructive mental power lies in the creative thought that shapes your destiny, and your hour-by-hour mental conduct produces power for change in your life. Develop a train of thought on which to ride. The nobility of your life as well as your happiness depends upon the direction in which that train of thought is going.

Laurence J Peter

The hardest part of gaining any new idea is sweeping out the false idea occupying that niche.

Robert Heinlein

Inside his head a scene is forming – not just a vague or casual daydream, but a vision of the future that has all the reality, all the intensity of the present. Intuitively, the boy knows that sooner or later what he is visualizing will come to pass. He is sure of it. The scene in his head is a replica of the scene he has just witnessed behind the plate-glass window, with one all-important change. The occupant of the editor’s chair, thirty years hence, is himself. Himself, Roger Ferger, a poor youngster with no connections, no advantages, nothing except an image so powerful that it will bend all the laws of probability until they conform to an even stronger, though hidden law.

He goes home with that image fixed in his head. When he says his prayers that night, he relives his dream and asks for help in achieving it. Night after night he does this, unaware that by imaging himself so intensely in that editorial chair, and by reinforcing that image with prayer, he is touching the Kingdom of God within himself and releasing forces more powerful than he knows. How do I know this story? I know because Roger Ferger related it to me years after that memorable day in his childhood. He told me when he was not merely the editor but also the publisher and the owner of the Cincinatti Enquirer.

from Positive Imaging, by Norman Vincent Peale (see works by Norman Vincent Peale )

Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns. I am thankful that thorns have roses.

Allophones Karr

A difficulty is approached rightly when you inquire inwardly, 'How can I think about this in a different way from last time?’

The Daily Guru

To think bad thoughts is really the easiest thing in the world. If you leave your mind to itself it will spiral down into ever increasing unhappiness. To think good thoughts, however, requires effort. This is one of the things that discipline – training – is about.

from the novel Shogun, by James Clavell (see Shogun and other works by James Clavell )

A man who does not think for himself does not think at all.

Oscar Wilde (see works by and about Oscar Wilde )

If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought.

Peace Pilgrim (1908-1981) American peace activist (see works by and about Peace Pilgrim )

You are not happy because you are well. You are well because you are happy. You are not depressed because trouble has come to you, but trouble has come to you because you are depressed. You can change your thoughts and feelings, and then the outer things will come to correspond, and indeed there is no other way of working.

Emmet Fox

We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we make the world.

Buddha (see works about the Buddha )

The thoughts we choose to think are the tools we use to paint the canvas of our lives.

Louise Hay (see works by Louise Hay )

The only things in your control are your thoughts and then your actions.  Positive, powerful thoughts lead to positive, powerful actions, and when done with repeated consistency this cycle leads to greatness. Dream it! Pray for it! Believe it! Work for it! and then be ready when it happens!

Greg Werner, Strength and Conditioning Coach

To think bad thoughts is really the easiest thing in the world. If you leave your mind to itself it will spiral down into ever increasing unhappiness. To think good thoughts, however, requires effort. This is one of the things that discipline – training – is about.

from the novel Shogun , by James Clavell (see other works by James Clavell )

The greatest discovery of my generation is that man can alter his life simply by altering his attitude of mind.

William James (see works by William James )

But words are things, and a small drop of ink,
Falling like dew, upon a thought, produces
That which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think.

George Gordon Byron

You are not happy because you are well. You are well because you are happy. You are not depressed because trouble has come to you, but trouble has come to you because you are depressed. You can change your thoughts and feelings, and then the outer things will come to correspond, and indeed there is no other way of working.
