Every decision you make – every decision that you make every second – is not a decision about what to do, it is a decision about who you are. Every act is an act of self-definition.

Neale Donald Walsch (see works by Neale Donald Walsch )

When you meet a man, you judge him by his clothes; when you leave, you judge him by his heart.

Russian Proverb

You're only given a little spark of madness. You musn’t lose it.

Robin Williams (see works by and about Robin Williams )

Do not worry as to whether you are fat or thin. Worry rather as to whether you use your body, mentally and physically, as an expression of thy ideal.

Edgar Cayce Reading 308-8 (see works by Edgar Cayce )

By steady self-observation, we can see the difference between living from society's subtle demands and from our own center. Any discomfort we feel is trying to show us the difference.

The Daily Guru

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Martin Luther King Jr (1929-1968) American Civil Rights Leader (see works by and about Martin Luther King Jr )

Most people do not know what it means to truly be loving and accepting of your self. It means that you allow and acknowledge as a part of you all those aspects that you have previously been denying, repressing or trying to get rid of. There can be no hint of judgment. This is not as difficult as you might imagine, because at the level of Being, you are love and acceptance. So if you awaken into Being and then allow all those aspects of yourself that you have been condemning to surface and be owned, acknowledged and expressed within the consciousness of Being, a tremendous relaxation will occur. It will allow you to deepen even further into Presence and Being.

The Daily Guru

There is a part of you that is perfect and pure. It is untouched by the less-than-perfect characteristics you have acquired by living in a less-than-perfect world. This part of you is a still and eternal star. Make time to reach it and this will bring you untold benefit.

Unknown

Property may be destroyed and money may lose its purchasing power; but, character, health, knowledge and good judgement will always be in demand under all conditions.

Roger Babson (1875-1967) Founder of Babson College

I am two women: one wants to have all the joy, passion and adventure that life can give me. The other wants to be a slave to routine, to family life, to the things that can be planned and achieved. I’m a housewife and a prostitute, both of us living in the same body and doing battle with each other.

The meeting of these two women is a game with serious risks. A divine dance. When we meet, we are two divine energies, two universes colliding. If the meeting is not carried out with due reverence, one universe destroys the other.

from Eleven Minutes by Paulo Coelho (see works by Paulo Coelho )

Persons of high self-esteem are not driven to make themselves superior to others; they do not seek to prove their value by measuring themselves against a comparative standard. Their joy is being who they are, not in being better than someone else.

Nathaniel Branden (see works by Nathaniel Branden )

When a man begins to understand himself he begins to live. When he begins to live he begins to understand his fellow men.

Norvin McGranahan

Every man's work, whether it be literature or music or pictures or architecture or anything else, is always a portrait of himself.

Samuel Butler (1835-1902) English writer (see works by Samuel Butler )

The self is not something that one finds. It is something that one creates.

Thomas Szasz (1920-) American psychiatrist (see works by Thomas Szasz )

It seems crazy that in all that time I never stopped to think what I was actually cut out to do or be. But I'm sure I'm not unusual. There must be hundreds of people stuck in jobs they hate, or married to the wrong partner, or trying to be someone they're not. It's such an awful waste.

from Second Skin, by Wendy Perriam (see works by Wendy Perriam )

As in the play, the man wears a mask. Beneath the mask is the myth. Behind the myth is the image of God.

Bujun saying

What we can or cannot do, what we consider possible or impossible, is rarely a function of our true capability. It is more likely a function of our beliefs about who we are.

Anthony Robbins (see works by Anthony Robbins )

Wonder emanates from our own perspective.  Wonder can be expressed when we stop taking things for granted.  Wonder is contemplating the facts of life from a higher point of view. Wonder is remembering and acknowledging the uniqueness of our inner self. Of all the people in the world there is only one of each of us. That is a wonder in itself. And it follows then that not only is each of us wonderful, each of us is a wonder. Situations and events are temporary. Wonder is perpetual. And so are you.

Gail Pursell Elliott, “The Dignity and Respect Lady” (see works by Gail Pursell Elliott )

Accept no one’s definition of your life, but define yourself.

Harvey Fierstein

The world is a great mirror. It reflects back to you what you are. If you are loving, if you are friendly, if you are helpful, the world will prove loving and friendly and helpful to you. The world is what you are.

Thomas Dreier

Every man’s work, whether it be literature or music or pictures or architecture or anything else, is always a portrait of himself.

Samuel Butler (1835-1902) English writer (see works by Samuel Butler )

Seek out that particular mental attribute which makes you feel most deeply and vitally alive, along with which comes the inner voice which says, “This is the real me”, and when you have found that attitude, follow it.

William James (1842-1910) American philosopher and psychologist (see works by William James )

The most important thing I have learned over the years is the difference between taking one's work seriously and taking one’s self seriously. The first is imperative, and the second disastrous.

Margaret Fontey

Just as friction between certain types of rocks produces sparks of light, so it is the friction of our individualities rubbing against each other that illuminates who we really are.

Rev Rowland C Croucher

I value my self as an expression of God!

Annie Zalezsak

The idea of human life being housed in a body is fascinating. For instance, when someone comes to visit your home, they come bodily. They bring all of their inner world, experience and memory into your house through the vehicle of their body. While they are visiting you, their life is not elsewhere; it is totally there with you, before you, reaching out towards you. When the visit is over, their body stands up, walks out and carries this hidden world away.

from Anam Cara, Spiritual Wisdom from the Celtic World (p64-65), by John O’Donohue

I don’t like work... but I like what is in work – the chance to find yourself. Your own reality – for yourself, not for others – which no other man can ever know.

Joseph Conrad

What is necessary to change a person is to change his awareness of himself.

Abraham H Maslow, American psychologist (see works by Abraham Maslow )

Personality is a mask you believe in.

Dr White

The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.

Joseph Campbell
